Super Bowl

The Super Bowl is the annual championship game of the National Football League (NFL), and represents the highest level of the professional football in the United States - culminating a season that begins in the previous year.

The event, which uses Roman numerals to identify each game, was created as part of a merger agreement between the NFL and  American Football League (AFL). It was agreed that the champions of the two leagues teams would dispute the AFL-NFL World Championship. The official merger happened in 1970. After that, each league was redesignated as a "conference", and the game was played between the champions of each conference. Currently, the National Football Conference (NFC) leads the series with 25 wins against 22 wins for the American Football Conference (AFC).

It's considered by many as a major national holiday and it's called "Super Bowl Sunday". The country literally stops to watch the game. It's a great opportunity to gather friends and family. The Super Bowl tradition is so strong that the food consumption is almost as big as Thanksgiving Day. The Super Bowl has frequently been the most watched television program of the year.

But Super Bowl is not only about football. During the halftime they always have a big show of an international music star. The opportunity to play at the Super Bowl is a big deal to the stars and every year there is a "battle" for the ratings. So far the record belongs to Madonna (114 million viewers - three million more than the game itself). Madonna presented in 2012 a super show that brought her back to the attention of the American Press and proved that she is still the queen of pop and her 30 years reign remains strong.

This year singer Beyonce gave the audience a great concert full of  nice special effects and surprises. Although highly approved by the public who loved to see the three Destiny's Child girls performing together again, she failed to beat Madonna's record. Beyonce's show was also a response to the critics who were not kind to the singer for lip singing the national anthem during  Obama's inauguration. This time, Beyonce sang and danced from start to finish. Beyonce reached the milestone of 104 million viewers and ranked third in the history of American television. Madonna's Super Bowl concert is first.

The half time show lasts about 12 minutes.
Here are some of the best Half Time shows:
